Shopping
Shopping June 5th, 2009Shopping has always been seen as a prerogative of women. I know of so many men who become frustrated whenever they have to accompany their wives or girlfriends for shopping. Given a chance, they would do almost anything in exchange for tagging along with their ladies when the latter are on a shopping spree. Most men complain that the most frustrating part of shopping along with their ladies is the fact that they seem to choose something that they like but still rummage around for hours before finally committing on the article they chose first. As far as men are concerned, if they like something, they are likely to go for it without any more searches.
Shopping as an activity started way back in history. In ancient Rome, the Trajan’s Market had retail units where people could go and shop. With time, the volume and style of shopping had changed, but human psychology as far as shopping is concerned has remained the same. We still love to browse through multiple products before deciding on something and we still love to bargain. In fact, if you are shopping in an Arab country, bargaining is something that you must do. Bargaining is seen as something that helps build relationship between the buyer and the seller. With so many big brands around, we still love to go to those local shopping areas where we can bargain and pick up some exotic stuff at unbelievable prices. This is the magic of shopping.
In the modern world, shopping has become more of an entertainment. Huge shopping malls can be found in almost all the cities in the world. These air conditioned structures cater to every shopping need that a person can have. From groceries to daily needs to cars to clothes – everything can be found under the same roof. The poor men also prefer going to shopping malls with their ladies because after a while, they can spend time sitting in one corner, sipping coffee while the ladies go for store after store.
With the world product market so competitive these days, the competition is immense. Everyone wants to sell their wares and they offer rock bottom prices to attract potential customers. There are those brands and products that don’t compete and don’t offer any discounts, but largely, most of the products can be had for great prices.
The market that has emerged as the largest in the modern world is the Internet. Online shopping is seen by many as the most convenient way to shop. As a result, all the companies now invest in their product websites and allow customers to shop online. The shopper doesn’t need to step out. The product is chosen, payment made through credit card and the item is delivered to the doorstep.
Shopping is considered by many as a stress buster. When they are stressed, spending money on shopping makes stressed people happy. With so many conveniences available these days, shopping will exist as long as human civilization will exist.
